Staying Hydrated in the Summer

Summer’s here, and everyone is enjoying the Great Outdoors once more! Gardening, outdoor work, sports, and even laying out in the sun are among the favorite activities of most people nowadays. It is important that in this heat, we all remember to take some important precautions to keep our bodies in optimum health, so that we can enjoy even further being outside.

There are many who advocate the use of sunblock to guard your skin against skin cancer caused by the sun. Why is it that in recent times, when sunblock is most available, skin cancer rates have actually increased? The use of harsh chemicals, foreign to the body, applied liberally and often, may be the answer to that question. Though there is no actual research or studies that support a claim that sunblock usage increases melanoma, it may be advisable to opt for a natural sunblock instead. Natural sunblocks won’t cause melanoma, as they only contain products found naturally on earth.

There are a few natural ingredients that can act as a UV blocker. Among those are sesame seed oil, olive oil, vitamin e, green tea polyphenols, black tea gel, and broccoli extract. Selenium, when taken internally, also fights cancer-causing free radicals.

There are numerous natural sunblock recipes available. The internet is bountiful with recipes for sunscreen, and trusted health care providers can also supply advice on what to include in a homemade sunblock.

Another very important rule during the summer is to stay hydrated. Even during the winter months, as much as 75% of the population is chronically dehydrated. During the summer months, it is much more likely for a person to become dehydrated, especially if working outside, playing sports, or participating in any activity that causes sweating.  Many people actively indulge in sports drinks that are marketed as being better than water for hydration. It is true that your body needs more than water to be adequately hydrated, but the sugars and high fructose corn syrup often found in sports drinks do not help to hydrate your body at all. Instead of grabbing a sports drink, or even regular water, trying a natural rehydrating product may be the solution to dehydration.

When a person sweats, he loses much more than just water. In that sweat are minerals and nutrients that a body needs to stay healthy. Therefore, it is vital that one chooses a supplement that replenishes your mineral and electrolyte content as well. In doing this, a person can replace lost minerals and electrolytes much more quickly than by drinking tap water.

Mineralife’s Rehydrate provides the perfect solution to summer dehydration. This is a product that is directed not only at serious athletes, but also the “average” person, gardening or laying out by the pool. Regardless of one’s physical exertion, chances are that minerals are lost during the summer, and serious rehydration is needed by the body.

Rehydrate is an electrolyte replacement solution that when added to ordinary water can replenish vital electrolytes including sodium, potassium and magnesium lost through sweat. Proper hydration requires the right balance of electrolytes and water. But electrolytes are much more than the sodium and potassium that most sport drinks contain. In fact, magnesium is required for the metabolism of carbohydrates and low levels of magnesium can cause muscle cramping. Rehydrate provides the right blend of electrolytes without any added sugar or artificial ingredients.

This summer, we all need to stay healthy by taking simple measures to ensure that our bodies are taken care of. Using a natural sunscreen and rehydrating the body are only two easy ways to protect your body during this time.
